- Watch out for cross-contamination while preparing food. This can happen if you use the same equipment or utensils (or hands) for two different foods.
- Be wary of careless food handlers. The scoop used for walnuts may have previously been in the peanut bin.
- Ask about ingredients in foods before allowing children to taste.
- Be safe rather than sorry. If you can’t be sure of what is in a food, don’t allow a child to eat it.
There is no cure for food allergies; the only way to avoid a reaction is to avoid contact with any specific allergens that affect the child.
